Social housing and financial awareness sesssion

Overview

Over a series of six sessions, 150 senior pupils from St Machar Academy learned about independent living, housing options and the associated financial costs that a school leaver might need to consider.

Results and effectiveness

The workshop covered important topics such as social housing options and the practicalities of independent living. It also introduced basic financial awareness and looked at budgeting, affordability and potential support via benefits.

Additional benefits

Pupils engaged well with the interactive elements of the session. They were able to ask and respond to questions anonymously using an app on their mobile phones, designed for giving real-time feedback during presentations.

“I really enjoyed presenting to the S5s at St Machar Academy, the pupils were engaged and asked good questions on the topic of housing. I feel it is important to make young people aware of their options when it comes to housing but also the costs of going it alone. The presentation generated some good discussion and hopefully provided some useful information for the classes.”
