Overview

The full S6 cohort at Harlaw Academy were given the opportunity to participate in one of four financial wellbeing workshops led by representatives from Johnston Carmichael Wealth.

The sessions, which took place over two days, covered a range of topics, including:

  • Budgeting
  • Credit scores
  • Tax.

Geared specifically for a teenage audience, the session content incorporated short videos. The aim was to provide the prospective school leavers with valuable knowledge prior to their next steps.

Results and effectiveness

This is the second consecutive year that Harlaw Academy has offered these sessions for the most senior pupils in the school.

The sessions were requested by a guidance teacher after their successful introduction last year.

Over 80 pupils participated across the two days.

Additional benefits

As well as covering the three set topics, the sessions were designed to be interactive with time built in for pupils to ask any additional questions.

The session content was supported by a digital workbook; the team at Johnston Carmichael Wealth have since shared this as a resource for DYW North East to use to support other schools and young people.
