Overview

Two employer-led sessions for S4 pupils provided them with an overview of engineering jobs, pathways and career routes.

Pupils benefited from a site visit to a Loganair hangar, where they learned about the different engineering support roles that contribute to the smooth operation of an airline.

Engineering professionals across different industries and disciplines also shared their knowledge and experience with pupils during an in-school session.

Results and effectiveness

Pupils heard from industry representatives working across civil, process, environmental chemical and mechanical engineering. The in-school sessions were preceded by a visit to Loganair, where they were able to experience an aeronautical engineer's working environment and ask questions.

Additional benefits

The consecutive sessions worked well together.

The initial visit to the Loganair hangar prepared the pupils for the in-school presentations. They were able to ask informed questions of the engineers working across different industry sectors when they visited the school at a later date.
