Aboyne Academy and Port of Aberdeen visit

Overview

The S2s received a talk from Keith Young, Project Director for. AHEP. Keith talked through the history of the site, the reasons for its development and the kind of maths that are relevant and used for this type of project. The group were shown drawings and plans and a project geologist also talked about his role. Pupils were given hard hats and hi-vis jackets and escorted down to the site for a walk along the north wall, which was incredible and gave them an understanding of the scale of the project.

Additional benefits

The school took the opportunity to combine this experience with a visit to nearby Torry Battery, which allowed the Geography and Art departments to get involved. The pupils were split into groups; while some were at the Harbour Expansion site the others had a lesson in photography and then geography before swapping over.
