Alford Academy sector awareness session

Overview

This half-day session formed part of Alford Academy's series of sector awareness days.

The event, which took place in school, allowed pupils to develop an understanding of the different types of jobs available within energy and engineering.

By moving round different activities, pupils were able to meet a variety of industry professionals and participate in hands-on activities.

Results and effectiveness

The format of the session - with pupils participating in smaller groups - enabled good quality interaction and learning.

As well as gaining knowledge of different job roles, pupils learned about the engineering science that underpins renewable and clean energy.

Additional benefits

The VR headset showcased by Safer Training allowed pupils to use industry-standard training equipment in a simulated offshore rescue situation.

Pupils were able to test and develop their existing skills, while gaining an insight into the training required to work in the marine industry.

"Thank you for your assistance and the warm welcome we received from all your colleagues - and of course the great participation from the young people. We would be delighted to support any event you have in the future."
