A day out with a difference exposed senior pupils from Aberdeen to cutting-edge technologies and engineering solutions.
A site visit to Interwell introduced S4-S6 pupils from three Aberdeen city secondary schools to some of the latest equipment and advancements in engineering and energy technologies. Their time on-site provided them with technical insights, gained through interactive presentations and demonstrations. Pupils also learned about routes into different roles and had the opportunity to connect and network with industry professionals, who shared their career journeys.
Fun featured prominently in the day too: the event concluded in a lively quiz with prizes up for grabs.
The Interwell visit benefited pupils in a variety of ways. The hands-on, practical activities provided them with a real sense of the scale and complexity of operations. They also gained valuable technical knowledge about equipment design and application.
More generally, being on site provided pupils with a flavour of working life and the pace, scale and interdependence of teams.
Hearing directly from Interwell representatives gave pupils an understanding of the diverse range of careers - and routes into them - that can exist within a single organisation.
The quiz was a fitting culmination to the day, reinforcing what the pupils had learned about technology, engineering, the energy industry, career pathways and networking.
“I didn’t know about downhole tools before – it was really interesting to hear about the problems that they can fix thousands of meters away from the surface. I also learned about jobs I had never heard of before.”
