Napkin folding

Overview

The S2 year group from St Machar Academy participated in a series of fun, interactive activities set by employers to provide them with a taste of different roles in the hospitality industry.

Over a two-day period, the S2 pupils were divided into smaller groups, allowing them to speak directly with hospitality industry professionals and ask questions. In their groups, they also tackled a variety of themed activities, including:

  • Folding towels and napkins
  • Creating mocktails
  • Laying tables
  • Completing a hospitality career quiz.

Results and effectiveness

The pupils enjoyed the session, interacting well and asking questions about both full-time career opportunities and part-time roles that might be available to them from age 16+.

Additional benefits

Several of the industry representatives followed up to extend a separate invitation to pupils to visit them on-site, providing the young people with a further opportunity to gain insights into a hospitality working environment.

“The pupils seemed to have engaged really well with it and I think the micro activities/bitesize approach worked really well. ”
