Alford pupils discover creative careers

Overview

Throughout the morning, small groups of pupils had the chance to discover and explore different creative careers. They visited three separate employer stations, spending ten minutes at each one. The stations all included an interactive activity; these activities allowed the pupils to gain hands-on exposure to different creative careers. They also had the chance to ask questions.

Over 100 pupils took part in the sessions.

Results and effectiveness

The activities provided the pupils with an insight into different creative careers. They were tasked with:

  • developing a marketing campaign
  • designing a comic strip
  • considering the nuances of hair colour and design.

These mini challenges aided skills development in areas such as idea generation, problem solving and communication.

Additional benefits

The tasks that were set by the visiting organisations allowed pupils to draw on their existing knowledge of advertising platforms and social structures.

Exploring angles in hair cutting, along with ratios for mixing hair colours, allowed pupils to apply their maths learning and connect the school curriculum with creative careers.
