Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) North East will reinforce its support for employers and young people in 2024 after strengthening its team with the creation of a new key role and several appointments.

Romana Richards joined DYW North East as an Employer School Coordinator in 2022. In her new role as Operations Lead, Romana will be central to helping DYW North East pursue its goal of encouraging as many employers in the region to connect with and recruit young people. As a former leader with the Metropolitan Police Service, Romana has a strong track record of working in partnership with different agencies.

Following several internal promotions earlier this year, DYW North East has also recently recruited seven new Employer School Coordinators. Employer School Coordinators are instrumental in helping local employers and schools develop meaningful, long-term partnerships, which provide the region’s young people with valuable career-related insights.

“It’s fantastic to enter 2024 with a robust team structure, which will support our ambitious plans for next year and beyond,” says Margo Milne, Director, DYW North East. “We have significantly grown the number of regional employers who are connecting with young people this year, however we remain firmly focused on increasing both the quality and the volume of the activity we facilitate.

“Our new team members bring with them a wealth of different skills, experience, sector knowledge and - most importantly – enthusiasm. I am sure that our region’s employers, educators, partners and young people will benefit hugely from their efforts.”

DYW North East is one of 20 regional DYW groups in Scotland. It aims to bridge the gap between industry and education and plays a key part in the delivery of the Young Person’s Guarantee.
