Whittaker Engineering continue to build very positive links with Mackie Academy and remain keen to engage pupils in their company. On Friday 16th March Mackie Academy senior pupils were invited for a site tour of Whittaker Engineering. Pupils were taken round all the equipment and machinery and given a detailed insight into the day to day workings of the company.

Murray Whittaker and his staff engaged very positively with pupils and gave them an outline as to what careers within the company entail. Whittaker Engineering staff were honest and encouraging and their support for Mackie Academy pupils continues to be evident throughout all the events in which they have engaged with our school.

After the tour of the workshops, pupils were invited into the board room to engage in informal discussion with staff as to apprenticeship opportunities and what skills and qualities the company are looking for from future employees. Pupils asked pertinent questions and left the visit with a very clear understanding of what would be expected of them should they make an application to work with the company in the future.

Whittaker Engineering has extended their invitation for S3 pupils at Mackie Academy to visit their premises before the end of term. This opportunity is aimed at pupils who have a desire to pursue a career in the energy and engineering sector beyond school.

Mackie Academy have additional events lined up with Whittaker Engineering over the coming months involving all year groups. Working together continues to be very inspiring and motivational for all pupils involved.
