ICAS and Robert Gordon University (RGU) have teamed up to offer a new route to become a Chartered Accountant (CA). The Graduate Apprenticeship in BA (Hons) Accounting combines an honours degree award from RGU with the globally-recognised CA qualification. This unique five-year course is funded by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) who will cover all university fees at RGU and the costs of ICAS TPS and TPE classes and exams. The only ICAS fees payable by the employer are the ICAS training contract fee and exemption fees.

In order to maximise time in the workplace and to accommodate students from throughout Scotland, the degree programme follows a blended learning approach. This approach harnesses work-based learning with academic study delivered through a combination of supported online learning and RGU on-campus activity. To allow apprentices to spend most of their time in the workplace, RGU provides the majority of the course online. Apprentices can then immediately put their improved skills into practice with the support of their employer and the university. This is additionally complemented by a number of sessions at the university, where they can exchange ideas and experiences with other apprentices and their tutors. With limited places available for the September 2019 intake, employers interested in this scheme should enquire quickly as demand is likely to be high.
