Our main aim here at Developing Young Workforce (DYW) North East is to bridge the gap between education and employers to help all young people find fulfilling careers. This aim is now more pertinent than ever before as we focus on working together to successfully combat the current crisis.
Despite now being at the start of week four of working from home, the DYW team is still very much ‘open for business’ and remain contactable at info@dyw.org.uk.
At the end of March we held our first ever virtual DYW North East Board meeting and I was delighted that all but two of my cross-sector board members were able to join the call.
While each of the board members’ organisations are trying to navigate their own way through these unprecedented times, the willingness of them all to pull together and support the young people in our region is commendable.
At a national level, the DYW regional groups and Scottish Government are working together to prioritise the support required for employers, schools and young people while also harnessing our collective knowledge and experience across Scotland. Several workstreams have been established in which the north east team are participating.
Over the coming weeks, the team will be working closely with the local authority education and employability teams, Skills Development Scotland, the college, universities and other specialist organisations in order to support young people in the region through this difficult time.
We will also continue to be the point of contact for employers who are looking to engage with young people and schools or build-on existing partnerships.
