When school students think about their future profession, a career in hospitality may not spring to mind. Commonly misconceived as an industry best suited for just a summer or weekend job, but in reality the multi-billion pound hospitality sector is bursting with a variety of roles that promise valuable and rewarding long-term careers and lots of fun too.
Employing 3.2m people, producing £130bn of economic activity and generating £39bn in taxation for the UK Government, it is the third largest private sector employer and the largest sub-sector of the tourism industry. With ambitions to create tens of thousands of new jobs and up to 200,000 new apprenticeships over the next five years, as well as broader development and learning opportunities, this is a sector worth exploring.
Developing the Young Workforce North East Scotland (DYW) and the Aberdeen City & Shire Hotels Association (ACHSA) have teamed up to bring parents, pupils and teachers an information evening to showcase the diversity of roles within the hospitality industry.
Hear directly from hospitality professionals in hotels along with schools and pupils who are already gaining work experience in the industry. There will also be a networking opportunity to learn about the career pathways from colleges and universities.
If you’re curious about a career in accounting, engineering, sales and marketing, or just want to run your own company, then book your free place and find out about the potential career routes within hospitality. You can also learn valuable life skills, build up your confidence in interacting with people, make amazing meals, great cocktails, and put on a show to dazzle your guests and make them feel great.
